"Satisfactory answer, you'll all sleep in here today, and don't even try breaking through the walls or opening the door." It didn't sound too bad until everything turned into stone. She glanced around. "Uh..."

"Did you have to bring us underground?" said the lieutenant. They were underground? She swallowed uneasily, her heart beginning to beat restlessly in her chest. Upon noticing there was no door, the feelings became worse.

"So, who did you bring? Akira asked the lieutenant. Had he forgotten her already? The lieutenant motioned to her to speak.

"Fujioka Natsu-." Natsuki managed to mutter before she felt an arm wrap around her waist. She jumped, caught off guard. Her heart began to slow as her surroundings were pushed to the back of her mind. She glared at Atsumi. "What the heck are you doing?" She hissed, trying to get out of her grasp. It was her turn to talk!

She felt the wound on her back burn when she moved enough to make it rub against the fabric of Atsumi's clothes and stifled a wince. Atsumi's grip tightened and Natsuki mumbled an "ow" before stopping all struggle and letting the brunette lead her. Sinthia was in the other arm.

Atsumi led them over to the beds and laid down in one. Natsuki tried to get up but only ended up letting out a whine as she was pulled close. "Stoop!"

"Hey we're going to sleep now so keep it down okay?" Atsumi said. "You two are sleeping with me tonight to make up for me missing my afternoon naps. Natsuki try not to squirm too much okay? Sinthia I'm trusting you to not hit my hand. Also, if either of you go and sleep somewhere else I'll break it with you still on it."

Natsuki sighed, a pout on her face. She didn't know whether to believe her or not, but surely if she went to test it she'd get caught in the act. She glanced over at the captain and the lieutenant, her face pleading.

Sinthia grumbles, but passes out rather quickly. The captain is fast asleep by the time the lieutenant stands up. He doesn't sleep, and instead moves to the other end of the room. He lowers his head and goes into a trance of sorts.

Seeing that the superiors would not help, Natsuki sighed. She relaxed and let her eyes close. She felt her body become heavy with exhaustion and she fell asleep minutes later.

Feeling both Natsuki and Sinthia relax, Atsumi felt like she could finally fall asleep. Here's hoping i don't get any weird dreams.

Sinthia lightly opened her eyes and saw darkness. She tried to move but she couldn't; she was stuck, pinned down. Suddenly she heard movement, and she was quickly alert. Light peeked through, and she saw that she was covered in rubble. Amazingly, she wasn't in pain. A face looked through the rubble at her, it was beautiful, and the long, nearly white blonde hair fell to meet Sinthia.

"Lucy?" she asked. I don't know anybody by the name of Lucy, do I? For what felt like minutes she stared into the face of this girl. The rubble moved again, and she broke the connection as she moved freely. Once she got out, the blonde jumped forward and gave her a hug. Sinthia, without hesitation, returned it. Why? Her eyes scanned around once they broke from the hug, and she saw the she was in an alleyway, and to her left was a broken wall. That is what must have collapsed on her. Looking to her hands, she see's her right arm covered in metal plates, and claws strapped to her hand.

"Where's your gun? We need to get moving." Lucy said, and Sinthia started looking for her gun.

Gun?

Yes, gun. She found it quickly and picked it up, a Colt 1911 by the look of it. She held it in her left hand and aimed forward, pulling the trigger as to test-fire. The bullet hits a couple inches from the mark, but that wasn't too bad. She then switched to her right, pulled the trigger, and hit her mark dead-on. She switched back to her left and then rushed forward, Sinthia moving alongside her. Why am I so comfortable?

They turn a corner and Lucy lets out a slight yelp as she grabs onto the closest thing she can find and lifts it in front of her. Garbage can lid, the bullet just barely penetrating the metal and skidding off course, flying right past her eye. She rushes back into cover as Sinthia rushes forward, the shooter firing at her. She waits for a second, expecting the gun-shot, and then ducks into a slide, the bullet firing and missing. As he goes to lower the gun she pulls the trigger on her own, the bullet hitting his gun arm, the inside of the elbow, instead of his right lung. But hey. A hit is a hit. He screams in pain as his arm goes limp. She must have hit a nerve cluster or something. She then jumps forward and, with a smile and a joyfully maniac laughter, she grabs then mans face and stabs into his eye with the claws. He lifts his arms to grab her and stop her, but it's too late. The gun is to his temple, and she lets go just as she fires a bullet through his brain. She looks back to Sinthia, her heart full of joy.

"I need to get my rifle, come on." Lucy says, and she runs forward, but before she could make it past Sinthia she fell to the ground with the sound of a gun shot. Sinthia yelled out, both in anger and despair, and turned to where she heard the bullet come from, a window two stories up. She pulled the trigger four times, hearing six shots and fell toward Lucy. She saw blood coming from her forehead and covering her face.

"Wake up." Sinthia said, her voice calm yet lifeless. She stared into Lucy's eyes for a minute.

"WAKE UP." she screamed, her voice strained now, and she was starting to cry. "Wake up, wake up. Please, wake up."

Why? Why do I care about her so much?

"Wake up, Lucy, please." she continued, holding her close. Where am I? Why am I here? No matter how much she questioned, the dream continued against her. She pulled away from Lucy, somewhat reluctantly, and let her head rest in her lap. She was still crying. Nothing she could do.

Nothing at all.

Wake up.

"Good bye, Lucy." came the strained, hollow voice that Sinthia almost didn't recognize. She stood up, and started to walk away. She wiped away the tears and walked into the room, her Colt on the floor behind her. Somebody pointed a gun from around the corner, and she swung her arm up. The bullet that was fired was knocked away, but her arm was suddenly in a large amount of pain. She her the bullet ricochet twice more, and the man fell to the ground holding his eye, the gun on the floor. She grabs his head with her left hand and knees him in the face, and then she picks up the gun with her right hand. She continues up the stairs. This is familiar. She continues to the roof, having pulled the trigger thrice more on each floor she passed. At the top floor, she leaps through the door, and with four well placed bullets her clip was empty, and they were all dead.

All of them. She drops her gun, and walks over to a wall full of guns. She had to finish the mission, of course. What mission?

She grabs the rifle, and with a forced effort drags the heavy thing to the rooftop. The people at the top pay her no mind, not thinking anybody was to make it through the forces below. Sinthia drags her rifle over to them, and then kills one with a quick stab at their skull. Her clawed apparatus skewered his head, and she quickly pulled his pistol and shot the other two that were realizing what was happening. After that, she positioned herself, and looked for her target. Turn around. They had to be around here somewhere. Turn around. Stupid country. Turn around!

"Time's up, little girl." said a voice behind her, and everything went black at the sound of a gun-shot.

Sinthia woke up in a fit of sweat and looked around. She kicked away from Atsūmi and edged into the corner of the room. The lieutenant was alert and looking at her, his hand on the hilt of his zanpakuto. That makes sense, she did let out a slight gasp. She shook herself slightly.

Who's Lucy?

Natsuki stood in squad headquarters, which was oddly empty and quiet. Sure, she had only been there for less than a day, but she felt that something was off. She glanced around, curiosity and caution making her moves stealthy.

She caught sight of the lieutenant, all bundled up in black again. "Hey!" She called. Instead of looking her way, he ran behind a building. She sighed and jogged in his direction, determined to figure out what was going on.

It was as though the building kept getting farther and farther away and her breath began to catch in her throat after minutes of running. This was unusual; she had built up great endurance... She slowed down and doubled over, her hands on her knees as she gasped for breath. No matter how hard she gasped, it seemed that she wasn't getting the air. She let out a cough and fell to her knees, her lungs finally taking in air. She breathed deeply for a couple moments before looking back up.

She was by the coast. She could hear water crashing into cliffs and gulls calling in the sky. She raised an eyebrow and rose to her feet, which felt very tired. Where was she? Why? Where'd everybody go? Her body began to move, though she did not tell it to. She tried to stop, but she couldn't stop. Panic took hold of her.

Yet, more than anything, she felt a sense of misery.

Wait.

Yes... She remembered.

The sunrise was beautiful. There were countless shades of pastel violets, reds, and golds. Those were her favorite colors.

She wanted more than anything to just be able to stare at it and take in the scene... but then she wouldn't be able to see and thus not be able to write in her notebook. That was something she wanted to do even more. To her, it felt... mandatory.

She had arrived at Tojinbo about an hour ago after jacking Yama's car. He wouldn't need it to get to school, of course. He was way too hungover. Maybe her choice to take his car would even make mother think he was already gone by the time she got home to sleep and do paperwork. She wouldn't have the time to question it. She never had much time to do anything except work, sleep, and cry.

Maybe Yama would be thankful.

Until his car never came back, of course.

She sat at the top of the Oike rocks in her school uniform, her legs dangling over the edge and her notebook sitting in her lap. The page it was turned to was empty, but her pencil was poised over it with the purpose to fill it. Did she want to write about everything, or just make it short and sweet?

The air was cold and her bare, tanned arms were covered in goosebumps. The clouds that the sun painted with pastels warned the world below that rain was coming. She liked the rain. Would it rain a lot wherever she ended up? A quick smile crossed her face, though there was no happiness in her eyes.  She sighed, looking back down at the notebook that still was empty.

Why would the world--let alone her cruel classmates and reclusive family--care for her feelings? Her feelings were silly. She could be happy. She could make something out of the short end of the stick she drew. She could ignore the mocking words of her classmates. She had never done anything wrong, but they acted like she did. Maybe they were just jealous? It was never too late to be happy again. Yet, she chose to let her situation drown her. She chose to be sad. She was too much like her mother.

What was the big deal that dad left? If what her mom said was true, he was an abuser... an alcoholic... a felon. He belonged in that prison cell. Why was she so sad? Why did she make work her number one priority? She had two kids. She had a bigger responsibility.

Natsuki took in a jagged breath before looking around to double-check that she was alone.

Yama thought their mom was lying about the whole thing. He loved their father. The accusations that were made confused him. He got angry and he started doing unsavory things in order to rebel. Drugs. Alcohol. Skipping school. Sneaking out. Mom never noticed those things. She just saw that his clothes and hair were different. She said she liked his style. He didn't really like that.

Natsuki took a strand of her own green hair and gazed at it. She missed its original color. When it was brown, she didn't get as many comments at school. Sure, they came, but not from such a wide variety of people. She didn't know why she decided to do it. It was on a whim, maybe a subconscious attempt to fit in with Yama's friends. It was a mistake. The only one she regretted. She was happy she didn't end up fitting in with them. She didn't want to be a druggie.

...Was this plan a whim?

...A mistake?

...Something she'd regret?

She put the pencil to the paper and put down her home address, home phone number, et cetera. She then neatly wrote a single word as possibly and signed her name.

Short and sweet.

She put her notebook to the side, right beside the red backpack she brought just in case she changed her mind.

She brought herself to her feet, her eyes looking down the eighty-foot cliff. The water below was crashing against the cliffs violently, a surer sign of a storm. She looked back up at the sun, the colors, the beauty. She smiled wide, and for the first time in a long time, she felt excitement. It sparkled in her gold eyes.

She turned around, her mind screaming in reluctance. Her heart grew heavy, the beat slow.

She stretched out her arms and fell back.

She couldn't help but scream.

It was a rush.

She was scared.

It would finish the job.

ThiswasamistakethiswasamistakeIdontwanttodie

She'd finally be happy.

What will happen to mom and Yama?

The air was cold, harsh. The sound of it whizzing by her ears and the sound of the waves crashing filled her senses and became louder than the very sound of her screaming. She couldn't move. Everything went by too quickly to see, or so it felt, so she squeezed her eyes shut.

Her back broke on impact with the waves and immense pain erupted throughout her entire body. Her eyes shot open, a scream escaping her lips. All she heard, however, was a muffled cry as her last breath escaped her in the form of bubbles. Despair filled her as she sank farther and farther from the surface, carried violently by the rough currents. The sunstained water stung her eyes. The cold had sent her into shock and she struggled for air, not even thinking twice about the fact she was inhaling water until her lungs burned and her head felt like it was ready to explode. It was as though she was dreaming. Was she? Her vision blurred as she slipped unconscious.

Natsuki opened her eyes to see that she was still beside Atsumi. She couldn't slow her breathing until she sat up, holding her chest, her eyes watering.

Black. She saw nothing but black. For once she dreamt of nothing. She just slept in absolute peace. That is until she felt the floor vibrate along with the sound of rapid panting that followed. What the hell is goin on?

She moved her right arm and was bothered by the moisture she felt whilst doing it. That better not be piss. Atsumi brought her arm to her face and sniffed. Her arm was surrounded by a musky scent with just a hit of...salt maybe? She wondered if it was just because they didn't get to bathe. Man that would be nice right now. Nice warm bath with lots of steam. I wonder if they have hot springs here. Would the other two even want to go to one if there was? She kept thinking before realizing that she was able to freely move her arm.

Where was Sinthia? Also why was someone panting? Atsumi opened her eyes even though they were practically begging to stay closed. Everything was blurry. Waiting for her vision to focus she looked to her left and saw a figure sitting up. Is that Natsuki? What am I even saying it has to be...unless this is a dream and the Captain became a lady. Abandoning that thought she looked to her right. It was hard to see but there was definitely something there. It was a bit too small to be anything else but Sinthia.

Finally, her vision started to clear. She examined Sinthia for a bit before looking back at Natsuki. They were both shaken that was for sure. Propping herself up with her elbows, Atsumi looked at the Lieutenant and mouth the words "What's going on" to him. She got nothing back. Deciding to be more direct she spoke in a low voice with a little bit of "grump" hidden behind it "Fucks goin on 'ere?"

Sinthia's thought process was broken by Atsūmi's voice. She looked toward her and the shook her head. Without a second thought on her dream she got up and walked away, wanting space. Before she could even take another step, however, the room changed around her, and she felt somewhat disoriented.

"Akira, wake up." said a young woman wearing a captain's Haori. She started poking him in the face, but he didn't budge. She started poking him more, her face expressionless. Sinthia started to walk to see who she is, or at least what she looks like, but before she could get any closer she felt frozen to the spot, as though getting that close was too much for her to handle. Then she realized why; the amount of reiatsu the was emanating from this captain was too much for her to handle. The captain stopped for a second, and looked over to Sinthia. Their eyes locked, and then the captain gave a light smile. Her eyes were black, her hair dirty-blonde, and it was at about the length of her shoulders. Her bangs covered just her forehead, and her teeth were bright and perfectly aligned. Her figure was thin and her overall appearance complimented by it, and her skin was light; in fact, it was an exact contrast of Sinthia's.

"Sorry, it can be rather troublesome for most people." she said with a kind voice, and Sinthia felt herself fall backward, but gain herself just barely in time to stop herself from hitting the ground. She look back at the captain and saw that she was back to poking Akira, who was starting to stir. She looked then to the Lieutenant and saw that he too was struggling, and was making his way away from her, one hand on the wall for support. Akira suddenly burst forth and slapped the captain's hand away.

"Koko, stop!" he snapped, and he stretched and looked the girl in the face. She wasn't very pleased with him, and just as she was about to say something he shook his head. "Kokami, not today. Where's Ne?" he asked, and she raised her eyebrow.

"Natsune decided to patrol today, so it'll just have to be us two." she said, rather quickly and loudly. It was as thou-

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" Akira shouted, and he looked really stressed. "He shouldn't be out alone! He'll die. That Va-" he stopped, and looked toward the others. His face was then replaced with confusion.

"You brought nobody?"

"Well, I had a few candidates, but they didn't pass the test. I see they passed yours?"

"Yes... I take it you're to administer the test to them, now? Mind I ask what happened to your pupils?"

"Dead."

"Oh..."

"So, which of these three am I starting with?" Kokami looked around at the three recruits, her eyes examining them. "Youngest? Oldest?"

"Fucks goin on 'ere?" Atsumi's voice jumped her a little, causing her to release a single sob before wiping her eyes and curling into something that resembled a sitting fetal position.

There goes my good day. Natsuki thought, regulating her breathing as to not hyperventilate. She suddenly saw a shift of lighting and looked up. Dread sat in her stomach.

"Akira, wake up." She looked to the side in time to see a blonde poking the captain in the face. Natsuki liked her already, even though she felt weak due to the reiatsu she possessed. It felt a little... familiar. Sinthia was already up and had seen her too.

She heard some words being exchanged as she stretched and rose to her feet, careful not to fall. It was a challenge, but she wouldn't back down. Not like she once did. She trudged her way towards them.

"Natsune decided to patrol today, so it'll just have to be us two." The woman said, her voice in a different tone than before. She didn't look too far into it. Akira's face changed completely.

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" He shouted. She took a step back, caught off guard. "He shouldn't be out alone! He'll die. That Va-"

Va-what?

His face changed again, and his voice was full of confusion. "You brought nobody?"

"Well, I had a few candidates, but they didn't pass the test. I see they passed yours?" What tests? Candidates for what? It was too early for this stuff. She put a hand to her forehead, squeezing her eyes a couple times as to clear her vision, trying to see if she was missing some visual cues.

"Yes... I take it you're to administer the test to them, now? Mind I ask what happened to your pupils?"

Natsuki perked up at the mention of the test. Maybe she could pass it. Anything was funner than sitting around and doing nothing.

"Dead."

"Uh..." Natsuki said, once again caught off guard. She wasn't that perky about it anymore. The possibilities of how the reiatsu-generator annihilated her 'candidates' made her a little nervous.

"So, which of these three am I starting with? Youngest? Oldest? Kokami eyed her and her friends. She suddenly understood the middle child situation. She glanced back at Atsumi and then in the direction of Sinthia before locking eyes with Kokami, her eyes showing uncertain excitement.

That is, until the reiatsu hit her again and she had to step back carefully in order to lean against the wall. By then she was sort of staring at the ceiling against her will.

Moving her head back and forth between Sinthia and Natsuki, Atsumi waited for a response. She saw Sinthia get up and move farther away so she looked at Natsuki for an answer. She didn't get one. She did hear a new voice though.

"Akira, wake up." She looked in the direction it came from and was hit with a wave of reiatsu. It made her fall onto her back along with making her a little nauseous. When Atsumi looked at the source everything that was going on didn't matter to her anymore. SHE'S CUTE! She got onto her feet and started walking over to her slowly. Atsumi was halfway to her when she starting struggling to move her legs. Damn she has something wrong with her. I wana get to her and steal her away but this is getting to be too much. Just a sec...I felt something like this before.

She started to pay attention to what people were saying. "So, which of these three am I starting with? Youngest? Oldest?" looking at the three of them. She has weird eyes. Since she's addressing us I might as well ask.Without hesitation Atsumi spoke "Hey Nee-chan, was that you earlier today?"

Sinthia was rooted to the spot again, unable to move. She couldn't even turn her head at this monstrous reiatsu, but amazingly she was able to stay conscious. From the feel of it, none of them would fall unconscious. Kokami looked to Atsūmi and smiled.

"Yes, that was indeed me. I'll start with you, then..." and suddenly she was gone. She reappeared next to Atsūmi, and started to lift her hand when a cough was audible from Akira.

"I think we have more stressing matters to turn our attention toward?" he says, and she laughs.

"Natsune is the third hand." she replies, and she moves her hand across Atsūmi's face, a skull tattoo on her palm only visible to Atsūmi. Atsūmi would suddenly feel all existence within herself dissipate. On the outside, she would be limp, as though dead. On the inside, she would be facing something else entirely.

"The saddest thing about my specialty is that I turn the brain off and on so many times that it tends to fry the brain, but those who can withstand it come out, most of the time, shocked and in a state of despair for a bit. The happiest thing about it is that you typically regain all of your memories from your past life... Well, some look at it the opposite way." she then looked to Natsuki. "You're next, by the way. Just as soon as we see if this one is still alive or not."

Akira shifts in his place as though uncomfortable, but doesn't move otherwise.

PostSubject: Re: Part 1   Mon Feb 09, 2015 12:03 am

The way Kokami moved her hand across made Atsumi feel odd. She blinked and everything was different. She heard beeping noises and was being held by a giant person. When she tried to speak illegible noises were all that escaped her mouth. She looked up and froze. It was her mother. Her mother she hadn't seen in so long. She tried to scream out in anger, which came across surprisingly well. She blinked again

She was at the door to her house. She had to stand on her toes to reach the door knob. She pushed the door open and walked inside. She took her shoes off and walked to her room. She did the homework she was given in class as she heard the noises of her father taking care of her two baby brothers. She closed her eyes for a bit too long and fell asleep. She awoke to the sounds of yelling. It was her mom and dad. However, instead of hearing the door to their room slam shut it was the front door. She walked out and saw that most of the stuff her mom owned was missing.

She blinked again. This time when she opened her eyes she was walking home with her two brothers. They turned into the street that they lived on and walked further. They turned into their apartment and walked up the steps. The door to their house was open. She turned around to her brothers and told them to go downstairs and get the landlord. As they walked down the steps she rushed in and saw her father being beaten by two men in suits. She ran towards them and tried to fight them off. She punched the first in the face and went to do the same to the second but he grabbed her hair and pinned her to the wall. The first man got back up and started beating her instead. This all came to a stop when the landlord came into the room with a gun. The two men stopped in their tracks and put their hands up. In pain she blinked again.

Opening again she was changing out of her uniform and back into her normal clothes. Fixing her short hair she said goodbye to the shop owner she exited out in the alley way and rushed home to their actual house. She grabbed the door knob the door being unlocked. The boys must be home already. When she opened the door she saw a puddle at the end of the hall. Thinking it was just her brothers mess she picked up a clothe to wipe it up. She soon realized it wasn't soda. Her eyes opened wide and she walked quickly as she followed the trail. It led to her fathers room. She opened the door and saw the bodies of her brothers and step mother on the bed. There was a figure leaning of them. The figure turned towards her. It was her mother.

The woman who gave birth to her. The woman who left when her brothers were just babies. The woman who made their lives miserable. She came back just when things had been going so well. Atsumi's mother charged her, knife in hand. She was aiming at her stomach. Atsumi tried to move out of the way, guarding herself with her hands. This caused her not to be stabbed in her abdomen, but her hand instead. her mother thrusted the knife harder pinning Atsumi's hand in the wall. Why is she doing this?! Why did she ruin everything again?! Why is she trying to kill me?! I don't want to die! In a state of panic she kicked her in the shin and she fell. Using the time she had she took the knife out of both the wall and her hand. Her mother saw this and extended both hands towards Atsumi's neck. Atsumi countered with a right hook, sending her mother backwards on her back. Taking advantage of the opening she got on top of her and started punching nonstop. She gave into every animalistic urge that came across her. Her hands moved fueled by rage and fear of death. To no avail, her mother tried to get Atsumi off of her. Her punches came out faster and harder as her mothers face crumpled into a sorry mess of swollen flesh and blood. Atsumi kept this up for 3 minutes. When she was done she couldn't tell it was her mother anymore. She couldn't feel any sign of retort but still kept pounding away for another minute or so. Gasping for air she blinked again.

She was forced onto the ground of a dojo. "You learn fast for a 18 year old but your form is still sloppy." It was her friends father. Her friend was a part of a family with a renowned hand to hand only combat style. Their house was isolated in a valley. "Maybe if you didn't spend so much time looking at my body you'd be a better teacher" she exclaimed as she used her hands to pick herself up slightly off of the ground, swinging herself around and using her legs to knock her friends father onto the ground. He laid there for a second before moving "Point taken...you know you've been living with us for 3 years now....and I want you to start thinking of us as your family." Atsumi blinked again.

She was falling out of the sky. 1 second, 3 seconds, 5 seconds had passed and she was still falling. She watched in awe as bit of metal flashed as the sun hit them. She hit the ground and felt all of the air leave her stomach as the concrete greeted her body. It was like the metal was dancing in the sky. If only it were. 3 pieces of metal pierced her body. First was her right leg, around her thigh. Second was her shoulder. Third was her stomach. She laid there in shock trying to think of what happened. Sadly she couldn't remember anything of what had just transpired. Something was off though. The metal in her that should have been making her feel pain didn't do anything. She felt nothing. Her vision blurred into one huge light blue blob. She closed her eyes.

Opening them again she was in the room with Akira again. She felt like she knew what was going to happen when she felt a hand brush against her face for what felt like the thousandth time. She blinked. She was standing on the ocean. This was all completely foreign to her. Before her was an inverted whirlpool that was floating in the air. It had tendrils made of water that occupied the bottom of it. It shrunk down and water shot out from underneath it. It looked like an amoeba at first but it soon gained a proper shape. It was a tall woman. There weren't any real features to her except for her eyes. One was a round sea shell of sorts and the other was a jelly fish. The transparent woman extended her arm out and grabbed the inverted whirlpool and used it was a hat. It then stood there and stared blankly.

"I'll start with you, then..." Kokami said, eyes set upon Atsumi and a smile on her lips. Natsuki watched, her eyes narrowed.

She passed her hand over Atsumi's face and, for whatever reason, Atsumi fell to the ground. "Kiyoizumi?" She said, alarm present in her voice.

"The saddest thing about my specialty is that I turn the brain off and on so many times that it tends to fry the brain, but those who can withstand it come out, most of the time, shocked and in a state of despair for a bit. The happiest thing about it is that you typically regain all of your memories from your past life... Well, some look at it the opposite way." Kokami said, eyes turning towards her.

Natsuki's stomach dropped. Not only did she not want her friends' brains fried, but she didn't really want hers to be fried either. She wasn't serious, was she? Why would she do such a thing to new recruits?

There wasn't a dull moment around here. It was hard to keep a positive mindset.

They would just have to hang onto the possibility that they were strong enough to survive the on and off switch.

The woman's eyes were still on her.

"You're next, by the way. Just as soon as we see if this one is still alive or not."

"Okay." She managed to say with confidence.

Then something Kokami said prior that Natsuki hadn't processed echoed in her head. The happiest thing about it is that you typically regain all of your memories from your past life... Well, some look at it the opposite way. She felt her face flush.

She didn't want to go.

She had already seen enough. Remembered enough. Felt enough. Who would want to remember the life they left behind? There were countless reasons one would want to forget.

She raised a hand to her mouth as her stomach knotted, as though she was about to throw up.

Pity beat to the quick rhythm of her heart. For all she knew, Atsumi was going through hell.

"If you don't mind me asking questions, why are we doing this? Why are we being tested?" She said, slowly lowering her hand from her mouth.

Kokami watched Atsūmi, passively ignoring the rest of the room. Sinthia, however, was fighting with herself on how she took the information.

On one hand, she gets to know everything about her life, and she gets to learn about Lucy. On the other hand, she might die, and she didn't want to die. Dying is boring.

"Sometimes it takes a few minutes, sometimes it takes longer. All I can say for sure is that I've never seen it take longer than exactly one hour." she says, and she sits down and watches, her eyes closed.

*   *   *

Death held out her hands, water extending from them and swirling into a pool between the two. The pool of water shuffles slightly and a soothing, almost distant voice sounds from it.

"Hello, Atsūmi." it said, and then it went calm for a second, before rustling again. "You have questions, yes. Before you ask them, let me explain myself. I am here to offer you a choice, one of them leads to life, the other leads to death. Tell me, what was your goal in life? Answer this question first, and then you may ask me anything."

Atsumi stood there and listen to what the being said. Tell me, what was your goal in life? Answer this question first, and then you may ask me anything." Atsumi stood there and thought while examining the figure. The body type wasn't all that different from hers. Also why did it have eyes but no mouth or nose?

Atsumi thought back upon everything that had happened up until then. "Never had any." she said in a plain tone. She felt like she needed to elaborate "When I went through life I've never really set a goal. I just did what felt right. When I killed my mother I could've stopped when she was just unconscious, but I didn't because I felt like i needed to go further. When I talk to someone I address them in the way that feels natural." She stopped and watched the being again. It looked weird without any features. "Guess you can say I'm just watching things happen and reacting accordingly."

Atsumi moved closer until she was close enough to touch it. "I get my questions now right? First can I touch you? What exactly are you? Where am I exactly? Also, why are you cute lookin?"

Natsuki crossed her arms, annoyance obvious in her face. She looked to see if the captain or lieutenant would provide any answers. Why were they ignoring her? She let out a low growl and proceeded to slide down the wall. The wound on her back didn't really like the feeling, but it was okay.

"Sometimes it takes a few minutes, sometimes it takes longer. All I can say for sure is that I've never seen it take longer than exactly one hour." Kokami said.

What a wait...

And not even for something good. Possible death and bad memories. Oh boy, what a gift.

Death examines her, and then answers her questions. "Yes, you can touch me, but I am as you see, so what happens will be as you predict. I exist; but, before you, I am liquid. I am merely Death, nothing more, nothing less. You, right now, exist within my domain, but I have manipulated it so that it will fit what I look like. Technically, you and I don't exist but as a mere idea, though there is much more to it than that. As for why I am cute, that is something that you can answer yourself.

Now that I have let you ask a few questions, is there anything else you wish to discuss? If not, then we should continue before your time is up."

Atsumi listened to all of her answers not letting a single word by. "Sure, let's get this moving".

Death then continued with her business from earlier. "You must make a choice, but it's not as simple as you'd think, between life and death. Now, I am giving you the opportunity to go back to the point in which you died, but you will have evaded me. You will continue life as before, but whatever circumstances brought me to you are modified so that you do not die. You will not remember anything about the afterlife until you die again, and no matter what choice you make, you will never remember me or anything we have discussed here.

Your other choice is death, continue from where you left off. However, I will tell you of three things to come, and you must choose one of them to carry with you. I will warn you, though, that the next time we meet shall be final, no matter which choice you choose. Which choice do you wish to make?" she finishes and waits.

Senpai notice me

She sighed and leaned forward more and more until she was lying face-down on the floor, close to dozing off. She didn't exactly want to have that dream. She could've done with more sleep. She yawned and stared at the wood, replaying the scene in her mind.

Atsumi listened to death. What even are these options? "I"m havin fun right now so choice is obvious isn't it? Now hurry and tell me your three things so I can go see nee-chan." While saying this Atsumi stuck her hand into Death. Weird it doesn't feel like water...It's like the middle ground between water and jelly. Well being this is my mind I can still do what I want. Atsumi took a deep breath and stuck her face inside of Death. Satisfied she pulled out and sat down in front of her waiting for it to speak.

Death was patient, and when Atsūmi finished, Death began the three... Prophecies...

"One, you shall come across somebody twice in your travels, first they will be your enemy, second they will be your ally. He is the downfall of Soul Society. Two, the current Kenpachi, the Hand of Death, is not the flower but the snake, and they will be the one to kill the three hands. Three, you are going to come across two opposites that are attracted as one, killing one of them will save the other, killing both of them will save much more.

Pick one of these numbers, and that is all you will remember."

Atsumi thought, and decided rather quickly. "I like door number two."
